    The two-part annual exhibition Illustrators 60 will be held at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in January to February. The exhibit features works by leading contemporary illustrators worldwide, selected by a prestigious jury of professionals. PART1 exhibit includes works in Advertising, Institutional, Surface/Product, and Uncommissioned Categories. PART 2 exhibit Editorial and Book Categories.

    I will have total of 8 illustrations accepted into this year’s annual.
    During PART 2, I will be receiving Hamilton King Award for this piece created for PLANSPONSOR Magazine for SooJin Buzelli.

    I will be showing an original drawing from recently published illustrated chapter book A Crack in the Sea written by H.M. Bouwman (published by Putnam) Thank you AD Cecilia Yung for the project.

    “The Museum of Illustration at the Society of Illustrators is proud to present The Original Art, an annual exhibit celebrating the fine art of children’s book illustration, on display from November 1 through December 30, 2017.

    Founded in 1980 by illustrators’ agent and art director Dilys Evans, this exhibit showcases the original art from the year’s best children’s books. The 2017 exhibit features a diverse list of books selected by a jury of outstanding illustrators, art directors, and editors.”

    Marcos Chin and I will be inviting 6 of you, students and emerging professionals in illustration, to have informal conversation over dinner. Event is hosted by Society of Illustrators.
    This is an attempt to reach out to motivated young illustrators to have chance to ask any question you have about the industry, business and marketing. No question is a dumb question.

    I will be teaching workshop in my hometown for the first time. Come join me for one day of fun, working on multiple small projects that help flex your illustration thinking brain. Because, good illustration is not just about making pretty pictures, but actually about making pictures with good ideas.
    This is a part of Smashing Conference, however, you do not need to be a part of the conference to attend the workshop.

    With Marcos Chin and Chris Buzelli, three of us taught about 30 students out of the graduating class of 2017. They all worked really hard, and many had huge breakthrough toward the end of the school year. We cannot be happier.

Point of Vision – Celebrating Women Artists in Fantasy and Science Fiction –

    The show is curated by two acclaimed female art directors in the field, Irene Gallo of Tor.com and Lauren Panepinto of Orbit Books.
    I am not exactly who you think as a fantasy (or sci-fi) artist, but I do work in the field here and there, and my work is known to be surreal. The curators were kind enough to include me in the mix. There are two of my original black and white drawings, as well as one color print included in the exhibit.

    This is a publishing event for recently released book Living with Yuko Shimizu (published by ROADS Publishing of Ireland).

    The book is dedicated to friend and art director SooJin Buzelli, because half of the 32 images in the book was initially created for various magazines she art directs. We will be discussing about illustration and art direction, followed by my signing your book(s).
